Foreigners are leaving Colombia by the many thousands and not returning including investors.Overall Colombia doesn't have anything good to offer any foreigners. But Colombia does have extreme violence and murder to offer

These prices are out of wack. A modern 1br in the nice areas that westerners like to live is closer to 2.5M COP and not 1.8M COP. The non housing prices are only off by about 10% vs today's prices.

I would recommend $2k USD per month if you're 1 person. $2.5k USD if you're an adult couple. And $3k USD+ if you have children as you will need to pay for private schooling, tutors, etc.

A couple can live in bogota on $2000 u.s. dollars per month no frills.
George on Oct 24, 2023:
A decent apartment in Bogota 2br / 2bath in a decent area is close to USd750; utilities USD 120 ; Taxi 30 minute ride USD 7 ; breakfast USD 5 ; lunch USD 10-12 ; Dinner 10-12 . A single person with a 15'000.000 ( USD 3,750) monthly salary should be Ok to live as a decent person. PS: Consider a 300 dollar saving per month.

Colombia as a whole is unlivable unfriendly dangerous deceptive with death lurking around every corner day and night avoid Colombia save your lives it's that dangerous
Jay on Apr 03, 2023:
15.4M peso salary is about 12M after tax I believe. This will be more than enough for a single person in Bogota.
Hawkeye on Mar 29, 2023:
You are not even close on your estimate. We live in Villa De Leyva and average 10,000,000 preso per month for two people

Is it safe for expats to live in Colombia freely? and a 15,400,000.00 peso salary is enough to live for a single with some savings.

what is the 1 BHK apartment rent price in Bogota city center.
Kam on Feb 25, 2023:
The data for Bogota is severely understated. For example, a decent 1br in a nice area is about 2.5M COP and not 1.5M COP. The food prices are about 25% more than what is stated. The rest looks reasonable.

Current exchange rate $1 USD =4,990 pesos as of October 25, 2022.Most likely it'll be $1 usd= 5,000 pesos by Monday.Gentelmen start your engines Colombians are desperate everything is on sale including puddy at big discounted rates.Get 2 women for 20,000 pesos but that's also negotiable.
Anonymous on Jul 16, 2022:
$1 usd = 4,405 cop currently in Colombia. It's obvious Colombia is headed towards Venezuela and Argentina economies,a good thing.

"Obviously you've never lived in Bogota like I have especially since I'm from Bogota and still here. The part about the sidewalk being 10cm to 20cm above the street is a lie because it's street level throughout 95% of the city. The other 5% is around government buildings only.People get run over often standing too close to the curb on a corner in Bogota I've personally seen it. But that normally happens to foreigners and rarely locals."

Where do you live? Rural Usme? dude you will see the sidewalk being above traffic everywhere, from high end Chapinero, to the bad neighborhoods of Bosa (for somebody that doesn't live in Bogota or does not want to go far away into the city, you can look at google street view abd see for yourself). BTW, if where you live is not like that (unless, you know, you live in a rural area), you can complain to the local mayor (or here https://bogota.gov.co/sdqs/). Finally, can you post the news articles of people being overrun in the curb of a corner? if it is so frequent, it surely has a news article or two.

"Could one live comfortably with a salary of 4.500.000 pesos?"

Sure, you can live in Chicó (top Bogotá neighborhood) with 3.5 M (including utilities and food, and it will be a furnished apt) and will have the rest for additional activities ( a weekend trip to a colombian city os around 0.5M, and for partying you are fine with half that). now if by "comfortably" you mean travelling very often to distant places, or very high end partying/activities. you will need 15M-20M (cost of flying is expensive)

Bogota like all of Colombia has always been a wreckless, country full of poverty. Some of the most ignorant people I've ever met uneducated and unworthy of existence infadels.

This site is a joke no honest information about actual cost of living but instead a rant platform. But that's not surprising since the creator of numbeo is Bosnian, another brain dead rogue.

"Yes. Starting at ~2'500.000 for a single person you don't worry about money."

Hell no! That depends on your standard of life. You could do just fine and live with $2.5M but will most likely be living in a subpar neighborhood or not be able to afford any activities.

"Bogota has never been safe homicides are the daily norm" there's homicides everyday, yes, but have you seen New Orleans' homicide rate per year? "Just crossing the street can be lethal" everywhere it can be... "Bogota isn't handicap friendly something to remember if you have a disability." This is true "Never depend upon red lights nobody stops" Bullshit, there are some idiots that don't, of course, but out of 100 crossings, you will find them in 1, and you can see them doing it and react (cuz top speed in the city is super low, specially with the potholes you find everywhere), so it isn't as if you can't stop. "Never stand close to the curb on a corner either people cut the corners with their vehicles and many have been run over be safe." This is possible, but how probable? For starters, in 27 years living here I haven't seen it happen. The sidewalk is generally 10-20 cm above the ground, and again, not a city that can be proud of the cars' top speed, so you will have plenty of time to react

I wouldn't recommend renting anything in Bogota until things get somewhat back to normal for this reason.Even though I have a one year lease on my apartment the Colombia government gave landlords the green light to increase rents by 30% more as mine did even though i still have 8 months left on my lease, beware.
