Last year while in India I visited Mangalore. I saw that Mangalore is unique and beautiful.
Regardless of these surveys Mangalore stands tall in comparison with much bigger cities in terms of traffic density, people on the streets etc.
Unlike other cities in Mangalore I have not seen Dogs, Cows, tractors on the streets.
I saw this big difference more area less population just like our Germany.

This is the site for giving honest and frank opinions. You will find lots of boasting at both Mangalore and Kerala. Mangalore, Udupi and Kerala are referred as "Land of educated people", "Land of school and PU toppers", "Highest Literacy and HDI places".
But plenty of so called "literate" people from Mangalore, Kerala work as drivers, floor cleaners, babysitters and waiters for the wealthy Sheikhs in Dubai, UAE, Qatar and the rest of GCC countries. There is one famous billionaire from this "Indian west coast" region who came up in life by being a drug peddler for the Sheikhs in Dubai. And not to mention that both Kerala and Mangalore are notorious for unemployment. People have to slog and struggle a lot in office, colleges even for a Rs. 16000 paying job, and still taxes will be deducted from their salary to be paid to that useless Indian Government. The employees get nothing in return from the Indian government.
All your so called "purchasing power" in Mangalore, Kerala is because of the expatriates and diaspora that work in the Gulf countries and also in the Indian megacities. Your economy is nonsense.

I think Numbeo has become a place of exhibiting frustrations and bad mouths. A comedian below with anonymous name "KHM" tells Mangalore has low purchasing power. thats quite a joke. There are several branded outlets in Mangalore which no other Tier-2 cities have. Every major Tier-2 city in India has more or less same white collar jobs. Atleast Mangalore has a bit more IT companies than other Tier-2 cities.
KHM on Jul 29, 2021:
Mangalore has worst infrastructure. The purchasing power is very low, while the property prices are very high. Mangalore is completely neglected and ignored by the Government. Most people after education are happy to go out of this place and work in some other place. The economy in Mangaluru is worst and most white-collared jobs are non-existent.

Coming to infrastructure,
1. There is no provision to pay the utilities water bill online. Cities of Karnataka such as Mysuru, Hubli, Shivamogga, Vijayapura have their city corporations as default entries in many major banking sites to pay online bills. Mangaluru is not even there.
2. The city bus facilities of Mangalore are by far the worst in India. The private bus operator here does not even have a website, no helpline number, absolutely horrible bus operators. No tracking of buses via mobile app, no GPS stop announcements, no doors in buses. Most city buses dissipate plenty of black smoke and the private bus drivers are renowned for rash driving and overspeeding. The vast majority of private busses are dented. The private bus lobby ensures that any new bus services from the government will never get implemented in Mangalore.
3. The profitable banks of the Mangalore-Udupi belt first had their headquarters moved without consensus to some other place. Now these profitable banks have been dissolved without people's consensus with the banks that were facing loss and the local banks are now non-existent. The Government has backstabbed the people and have sunk the paltry meagre existing local economy. Karnataka deliberately doesn't develop Mangalore because it is a Tulu speaking area. This despite the fact that Mangalore is the only place in Karnataka to have both International Airport and a Major Seaport.
4. Any connectivity to the hinterlands of Karnataka is always met with objections by fake people disguised as environmentalists. These environmentalists never clean up any polluted place in the country and they themselves are a waste. These so called 'environmentalists' only task is to oppose infrastructure and connectivity.
5. The airport is still a dangerous tabletop airport and the government is apathetic to the concerns and not bothered about the safety of passengers. This airport is extremely dangerous and life-threatening for passengers especially during the monsoon.
Most people in Mangalore are delighted to move out of this place and settle elsewhere for jobs. People in Mangalore are not assertive and don't wish for any multinational companies or good infrastructure in their city.
Cost of living is very high but economy and purchasing power are miserable at Mangalore.

That 'liberal culture' aspect by the earlier user is complete nonsense. No place in India is truly liberal.
If you think Goa is liberal, then you'll have to read about the 'Goa inquisition'. The Goa inquisition is a secular and liberal event in Indian history. Extortion, kidnappings, drug peddling, prostitution happening in Goa is truly liberal for Indians. The 'Moplah riots' of Kerala and the genocidal slaughter of Hindus in 'God's own country' is another secular and liberal event cherished in India.
I am all ears to listen to the garbage of the 1.5 billion hypocrite Indians. I wish and pray for their complete mental recovery.
Hariprasad Bhat on Jul 17, 2021:
Mangalore is a costly place if you consider it from a Tier 2 or Tier 3 standards perspective. Eating out has expensive. Rents have shot through the roof although there is no value driving it yet mostly real estate agents are the ones behind it. Groceries have always been expensive. Milk, fruits and vegetables are expensive since most of it is imported here. No a investment proposition if you think in terms of nightlife or liberal culture.
Aniketh on May 16, 2021:
I have observed many people in Mangalore boasting about their social status by displaying their vehicles on the roads. People who earn just Rs. 10,000 per month or even Below Poverty Line (BPL) people showoff their wealth, cars and bikes on the roads in Mangalore. Many people from Kerala and Mangalore work blue-collared labourers (NRIs) in Gulf countries. These cheap NRI labourers are the main cause of most problems including inflation, pollution, lack of skilled technical job opportunities and rumour-mongering in Mangalore. I am very honest and am mentioning true genuine facts.
