Hello,
Since 6 years i live in bangkok. Never ever - not at bkk, not at chiang mai, not at Pattaya, not at hua hin - i payed for a km by taxi around 40 baht. The basic price has always been 35 baht including the first km. Every km on top is indicated with around 10 baht. This means, for a 10 km trip you have to pay around 120 baht. Depending on traffic situation. Who ever tells you the taxi km is around 30 or 40 baht is wrong. Definitly. Look for taxi with taximeter.
Apart from this, your indicated prices are more or less accurate - for tourists. If you are in a position to let locals help you, the rentals can be halved. Those who shop on the daily market may reduce their expences bei 20 to 30%.

I live a moderate lifestyle in Thailand. The cost of living is certainly not inexpensive, if, you like comforts, such as, a car, nice home, and regular visits to restaurants. Expect to spend 100k plus a month.
