That’s 12,300 USD
Lots of people find apartments on Facebook, but if you check the major rental website in Israel you will find that the average price for 1 living room + 1 bedroom apartment is higher than 5850.
As of today I counted less than 20 of those apartments available in the districts most people would call the city center in the price range of 5500-5900 ILS.
Meanwhile there are 119 apartments in the price range of 6000-8000 ILS.
City center prices are 55k-80k plus/sqm. We have 110 sqm and got an offer of 8.2 mil.
We are in a 90 years old building, no parking, no elevator in city center
Israel in general, and Tel Aviv in particular, is extremely expensive, but I feel like some of the costs here are a little inflated.
To start, rent is crazy high and super competitive (looking for an apartment is a full-time job and will take you a few good months if not more to find something sensible), but I'm not sure if one bedroom refers to bedroom + salon\kitchen, or just a studio. I am currently renting a studio apartment for around 3700 ILS (1190 USD), including bills close to the city center.
But yeah, it is pretty much impossible to find an apartment for less than at least 3300 ILS.
However, it is much easier to find a large apartment if you are ok with roommates or you have a partner. As far as location goes, since the city is pretty small, it's hard to be far from the city center, except for some specific areas.
Public transport is pretty bad (only buses and the city is full of traffic anyway) which is why it's so cheap. However, again, the city is small enough that you rarely need to rely on it. You can walk or bike just about everywhere very quickly. The weather also means that it's never too cold to not be able to do so.
Grocery shopping is cheaper from what's seen in my experience. Especially for fresh local produce such as fruits and vegetables.
Eating out is very expensive as well, unfortunately, but for the most part, you get really high quality for it. There are rarely restaurants that use cheap ingredients or are unprofessional in how they make your food.
The salary mentioned is a good average I guess but it can really change a lot depending on what you do. Many people make a lot less than the 9K average, but some people can make much much more, especially if they work in the tech world. The problem is that income taxes are so high that at a certain point it doesn't matter how much more you are making.
All and all, Tel Aviv is a great place to live in, but you should definitely only come here if you have a plan...
