As a tourist or mzungu (white person) you will probably pay at least twice as much as locals/residents. E.g. Every now and then I will ask a bodaboda (scooter taxi) how much to go for a ride and they will usually say 5,6,7000tzs for locations that is only 5-10 minutes away. I've used Bodabodas quite a lot and by now know the cost around town. The furthest I go is usually 5k which takes 10-15 minutes and I will pay 3000tzs (I don't even ask about the price anymore). Rule of thumb is 1000tsz per 5 minutes, just tell them where you are going and calculate the price when you get there.

After having lived in Stone Town a bit I now get discount different places - simply because I am not a tourist. So living here is a little less expensive. The more swahili you know the cheaper the prices will be. So learn some swahili frases!!!
