Felt very safe the whole time I was in Indonesia. Locals are friendly and helpful, although the touts at transit points (airports and ferry ports) were a pain. The gojerk app makes getting a reasonable fare pretty easy though - even if just to check the going price.

Didn't even hear a raised voice (except for drunken ex-pats) and never felt at risk of any violent crime. Comparing crime statistics with back home in Australia, Bali has less crime by almost all metrics (only drugs and corruption are worse).

Clearly you can get unlucky and I stayed mostly in cheap place near the airport and beach, so perhaps it's worse if you stay in expensive places? I also suspect that with the growing number of tourists petty crime will get worse over time. Regardless, all in all a very safe place to visit.

More and more scams, thefts, assaults, etc in Bali.

Most importantly, it is completely lawless and corrupt. Locals beating people with vigilante street justice, without any fear for law, because there is no authority or enforcement. It's really uncivilized. Avoid and take your vacation money to some more evolved place in the world.

Never rent a villa without 24hr security. Sanur is not safe like they say it is. Lost a lot that trip. Computer etc. Taxi over charge and demand large money The meter tamper. Stay in your home country

Avoiddddd. I was robbed by motorbike they came and kicked me off my bike to take my phone. I was in hospital with injuries. Police do nothing. They then answered my phone that my family were calling stating they were “police” and needed my address to give my phone back only to find out from my house staff in my villa that they want my location to steal me more! I had to then have 24 hour security as I was afraid they would get into my phone and find my location from my pictures. I felt a huge huge relief when I came back to Europe !
