Over the last few years I have been feeling less and less safe in Basel, much more people asking for money and even insulting. Last week at night around 23:00, Bus Line 50 from airport with my wife and kid I noticed a guy following us, arrived to SBB and I had to change direction sometimes to make sure he was following. We found security and stayed around until he left. I did not feel safe that night at all

Ek on Nov 27, 2024:

In the past 3 years there’s been multiple stabbings, few shootings, few killings but the worst part is the huge amount of antisocial behaviour, I see this on daily basis in basel and it’s very worrying. Don’t think it’s a safe place at all!

Basel has some serious drug related crime issues, which has been going on for years now. Nobody takes responsibility.

We had the same issues in Zurich, and thought Basel would be better. Costly mistake.

Next month we leave Switzerland, back to Germany, Freiburg is so much safer and affordable.

Unfortunately Basel is no longer as safe as it used to be. During daylight hours the city feels safe and is a very pleasant place to be, with lots of cafes, shops and bars. We have many tourists. However at night there are places to avoid. Especially Kleinbasel on the northern side of the Rhine, which is a hotbed of drug dealers and other criminality. I would advise people to avoid places like Claraplatz, Kaserne, Unterer Rheinweg and Dreirosen at night.

Basel has a significant amount of violent crime. The local police has been accused of not being able to address the problem. Basel is known to be a center of drug trade. And recent crime includes the killing of a taxi driver - the stabbing of a man in front of SBB and the sexual assault of a lady in the bike parking area underneath Railway station SBB in broad daylight ….

Whenever an assault or robbery happens you can almost bet in happened in "Basel-Stadt". Its the most criminal Part of Switzerland. By coincidence its also one of the most culturally enriched parts of Switzerland. Would avoid.
