The area was designated as a drug trafficking area last year 2019. There is a lot of meth activity and some break-ins. We have had a few shootings downtown. It has gotten worse as the population has steadily grown. There is some right-wing activity, but that is more toward the northern direction and Sand Point. The eastern side of town has more crime. You can tell you are in a bad area by the way the neighborhoods look, rundown, unkempt, etc. It feels safe walking downtown in the day. I would avoid dark allies at night, simply because that is good advice anywhere.
