From Canada and a foreigner to Mexico speaking a small amount of Spanish. Been coming to Monterrey since 1998 and always had no problem - day or night walking in Centro (colon and pino Suarez area) and didn’t have a problem but things changed in 2013 or so and now no problems in the daytime but will not walk alone after dark anymore. Been living and working in Monterrey Centro since 2014 and still consider Monterrey a safe city as long as you stay away from drug areas and do not flash money similar to most large cities in the world

In Monterrey, if you are from a Place South of the State of Nuevo León you get atacked, specially if you are from San Luis Potosí, people are drunk, loud, obnoxious, stoners, a City infested of Gangs, Gang Violence and Rivalries between Neighborhood Gangs people are violent and short tempered and the slightest disagreement could get you physically asaulted, full of savages, the only way to be safe is to live in San Pedro or in a private residencial neighborhood.
