England has a bad reputation for what goes on in London and up north like Glasgow/Manchester but Canadian cities don't hold a candle to 90% of the cities in UK in terms of safety. Let's not even get started on the ugly accent + horrible dress sense + self-entitled people.

You're more likely to have your lighter and coffee money stolen from your car than to have your car stolen. I hear about vandalism and theft happening in residential areas with decent regularity, though I've never experienced it myself. I used to live in a sleazy, drug infested apartment building full of addicts, because I couldn't afford anything else... And honestly even then I never felt like I was in any physical danger. Rent prices are pretty high, like everywhere else, and there is indeed a HUGE drug problem here.

Previous comments are correct, all the city cares about putting money into is the cheap tourist traps in the area, and everything else is going to sh!t. Oh, except for the nice, beautiful new subdivision areas they're building for the rich people that no one else can afford. (: The Canadian side of Niagara Falls may have the better view, but all we have is poor infrastructure, drug problems, tourist traps, and disappointment. Come for the views, but don't expect much else.

But hey, this is still Canada, so I'd say it's overall very safe. Not "go out without locking your door" safe like other places I've lived in Ontario, but I'm a young woman who's walked alone at night frequently and the only thing I usually get is some drunk/homeless person hanging out by the LCBO shouting at absolutely no one, or a creepy older man trying to make small talk, but nothing more. I've never feared being mugged, never been groped or pickpocketed or anything like that, but also use common sense. Stay in well lit areas where there's people around, Don't go down any dark alleyways, and if someone is making you uncomfortable just leave, you owe them nothing. Don't get wasted, keep an eye on your drink, and don't stay out too late, you'll be perfectly fine. People here are more likely to pick up your wallet you just dropped and run after you to give it back than to take it for themselves.

I would recommend visiting for a day, see the falls, maybe do the Hornblower cruise or Journey Behind the Falls which has great views, see the city at sunset (best time) from the top of the Skylon Tower (but don't eat there, too expensive) and then go somewhere else. Everything here is designed to part tourists from their money. (It was named the most disappointing city in the world, after all lol).
