Reims is the type of mid-sized European city that has all the assets to be a great place to live, yet is undone by many issues, namely a surprisingly unsafe environment. I often travel to Reims to see family, and that city has gone downhill fast in the last 10 years. There are places like the city center and the southern parts of Reims that are mostly safe during the day, but become seedy at night due to aggressive drunkards and homeless people. Then there are areas like the north and east of the city that border on feral. I also need to add that the locals are easily some of the most inwards-looking and close minded individuals in France; if you are not born within a 30 minutes drive of Reims, you will never be accepted.
