Riga is perfectly safe in the general area, except like 2 areas which can be considered more criminal it's un upstanding example of a perfectly safe European city!

Yes my ancestors were massacred by the nazi's. Seems like a shame these idiots are still lurking in the shadows.

I'm Jewish & somewhat swarthy and not tall, and I was in Riga for 1 month, my experiences:

1. In a student accommodation someone drew a big swastika in the snow and laughed

2. I was almost attacked for no reason by a drunk person

3. A wallet with 1,000 euros disappeared, was possibly stolen

4. When I entered a shopping mall the 2 women at the entrance looked at me and laughed, no idea why

5. When I tried talking to a policeman to say the wallet disappeared he ignored me

Riga is very safe in comparison to other European cities. I have walked alone day and night in the center and also outskirts haven’t enountered any dangerous situations whereas in London, Paris, Rome and other cities were quite dangerous not even talking about the USA, especially DC.

Riga is a very safe city! Have walked around not only in the city center, but also have visited the outskirts! Super safe in day and at night! Only thing avoid local Russians! Latvians are very reserved, but not that aggressive.

This city is worth to travel to and is much safer then Liepaja, the only city I recommend going to in Latvia.

Nowhere on this planet is 100℅ safe.I travelled to big west EU cities Milan Paris Frankfurt and in my opinion less safe espclly had a bad experience in Italy . Riga is beatful .all u need is be cautious .if u are out at night try avoid dark places or standing people and sometimes those drunk guys...otherwise nothing to worry
