Crime in Skopje, North Macedonia

Well…. Skopje is a very safe city in my opinion. Taxi scams are common, make sure you know the price before getting on the taxi. There is one area which I felt really uncomfortable, it’s next to the East Gate Mall, next to the river there is a petrol station which had a few prostitutes. In the old bazaar there were a few beggars which was annoying, make sure to hold your bag tight and your belongings close. Beware of people trying to sell you things, they will be friendly at first then they will start to become annoying. Something I have found quite disgusting is that people, mostly men, sometimes spit in the street but it’s not that common, but it does happen. If you want to come alone as a solo female traveler avoid Gazi Baba and the petrol station near the East Gate Mall which is close to the river. I did not find this city to be dangerous, I juat made a mistake and I walked through a bad neighborhood. If you’re thinking about coming to Skopje, please do it’s a beautiful city and the people are extremely friendly and very helpful. The city has beautiful architecture and is totally different to normal European cities.
