People in the comments below are just racist anti-muslim fear mongerers. It's safe, no one will beat you up for being gay, jewish, etc. People commenting here just live in their own racist fantasy land.

I live in Utrecht and it's a very safe city.

Had to leave this city due to being robbed, my girlfriend having problems with musl1m women and men in the supermarket/randomly in the street and personally seeing several confrontations between the same type of "people" with other foreigners or with Dutch people; clarifying that none of the last two groups (non-musl1m foreigners or Dutch) did anything special to bother the other kind (musl1ms). There are some parts in the city that feel like a slum in the Middle East rather than an European city. Even my employer advised to leave the office no later than 4pm to avoid bad experiences. Heck, we know of a foreign woman being dragged out of the bus by these specimens to do her who-knows-what. Luckily her husband and other Dutch men helped her.

@Piotr, Especially Overvecht, Kanaleneiland and some parts of Zuilen, Ondiep and Lombok (in particular Kanaalstraat).

In general it's a very safe city, especially during the day. A little caution is advised when walking through bad neighbourhoods at night. Due the high presence of Islamic migrants in certain neighbourhoods I would discourage to be visibly gay or Jewish in those places.
